Minimal Natural Chic
We have fallen in love with Zaikamoya, a children’s line designed by Kasia Pysiak. Based out of Brooklyn, New York, Kasia designs her clothes to be streamlined, effortless, durable, and so very beautiful– a rare combination when it comes to children’s clothes. And when we found out that Zaikamoya means “my little bunny” in Russian, we knew it was time to talk! Kasia kindly explained the inspiration behind her latest collection, and also picked out a few of her favorite pieces for us.
“The 2014 Fall/Winter Zaikamoya collection draws inspiration from vintage illustrations of children’s fables. As depicted in countless images of those stories, the heroes are bundled in soft layers of traditional clothing. That sense of effortless warmth, snug shelter, and versatile wearability informs many elements of our timeless designs.
My favorite pieces are all of the soft angora accessories: mittens, socks, and hats, all inspired by the pieces my Russian grandma used to hand-knit for me when I was a child. Our denim pieces– a skirt, shirt, and bloomers— are made from very thin Japanese cotton and are easy to match with anything in your child’s wardrobe–they’re a great base for any outfit. I’m also very proud of our soft neutral pieces. They’re made of the highest quality Supima cotton and Terry cotton, they come in grey, black, and mauve and are favorites of my four years old son, Liev. For girls, the soft cotton terry dress with asymmetric hem and unfinished edges is a great casual and comfy look. My other favorite for girls is a gingham dress in black and grey– I find this classic print very charming.” –Kasia Pysiak, founder and designer of Zaikamoya
